OUTDOOR YOGA CLASSES IN PENNSYLVANIA’S LOCAL PARKS ARE THE BEST DEAL IN TOWN THIS SUMMER
It shouldn’t cost you an arm and a leg to get your arms and legs moving in the outdoors or in a recreation center. And breaking a sweat shouldn’t break the bank. Parks and local community spaces should be for anyone and everyone—and, usually, they are. You just have to find them. In between summer vacations and constant ice cream stand stops (listen, we get it), you might be looking for some other things to do that won’t empty your wallet. What if we told you there are plenty of free events and activities all within Pennsylvania parks and recreation centers? And what if we told you it’s also a great way to spend time with loved ones, stay active, and grow closer to your community? It’s a win-win!
Let’s Get Physical

Hoping to bypass the monthly gym membership? Trying to avoid the cost of a fancy shmancy Peleton? We’ve got you covered. From team sports to workout and yoga classes, our parks and recreation centers offer free experiences that will get you moving, into shape, or just offer an easy and inexpensive way to have fun with friends.
If you’re looking to get your kids into sports, but hoping to avoid the pricey fees, look no further than Change Up Sports—a youth program that partners with recreation centers in Philadelphia to offer free entry-level training and games.
But free physical activity isn’t just offered to kids. From football to fishing to running—even pogoing—there’s an entire world of movement out there that doesn’t have to cost a thing. Check out Eventbrite’s comprehensive list!
Or go unofficial. Hit a park for a nice run, bring a yoga mat to a grassy patch and strike a downward dog, or even bring your dog and play fetch. Use our Park Finder to locate a park near you that’s ideal for whatever moves you.
Get Classy With It
The idea of classes and programs may immediately look like dollar signs to some. But PA is home to some incredible free clubs, classes, and initiatives through parks and recreation centers. Surely you’ll be able to find one that fits your interests—or you can even discover a new passion—all without going broke. Enjoying parks and recreation centers doesn’t mean you actually have to enjoy recreation. More into brain recreation? Don’t worry. We’ve got accessible spots for that too.

CraftNOW is the Philly Parks and Rec’s free art camp for kids! Additionally, CraftNOW Create offers free arts and crafts classes throughout the year for all ages. It’s a great way to join in a community and create lasting bonds and beautiful works of art.
Learn about canids, moths, monarchs, or rocks with York County or maybe learn about fungi with a mushroom club (and perhaps even get a taste?) in Pittsburgh. Looking for more ideas? Check out your local Parks and Recreation website! There, you’ll find all their offerings—many of which are free as a bird.
Festivals, Events, and More

Maybe you’re not all about the commitment of a class or a sports team. If you still want to enjoy nature or be part of your local parks and rec community, there are plenty of one-and-done (but be sure to stop by again!) events happening near you that are free to attend! Fill up your summer with free outdoor fun. First, hit the Berks Celtic Festival, then join Nay Aug Park for a FREE flower show, go cryptid hunting afterwards, then once July rolls around, stop by a park for some fireworks and fun!
Are you subscribed to our newsletter? If not, what are you waiting for? Each month, we share parks and rec happenings of PA—including a bunch of free events occurring in parks all over the state. Make this your most active, exciting, and budget-conscious summer yet!
