Let’s Play Among the Stars: A Guide to Stargazing in PA
Welcome to the aftermath of Pennsylvania Park and Recreation Professionals Day (PRP Day) – the day we pay tribute to those fearless fun-makers who turned our parks into a playground of pure pandemonium!
We are here to showcase what six wonderful parks did to honor their hard park workers. It was a day filled with a day of joy, laughter, and absolute nonsense in the name of good old-fashioned fun! The parks transformed into a mesmerizing party wonderland. The squirrels were breakdancing like nobody’s business!
Carlisle Parks & Recreation Community Pool
As the clock struck one, families and friends began to trickle into the pool area, carrying beach bags filled with sunscreen, towels, and pool toys.
The clock neared 2 pm, and everyone gathered near the pool deck for the presentation. The Park and Recreation Professionals, dressed in their official Pennsylvania Recreation and Park Society (PRPS) attire, stepped forward to a warm round of applause. They began by expressing gratitude to the community for their continued support, highlighting the importance of parks and recreational spaces in fostering community bonds.
They also took the opportunity to recognize the hard work and dedication of the park’s staff and volunteers, without whom the smooth operation of the park would not be possible.
The day ended with a sense of community pride and gratitude for the Park and Recreation Professionals who work tirelessly to ensure the park remains a place of joy, relaxation, and connection for all. With renewed excitement for what the future holds, everyone looked forward to many more happy days spent at the park, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the PRPS team.
Peters Township
As the clock strikes noon, a convoy of mouthwatering food trucks lined up, each offering a delightful array of dishes.
But it wasn’t just about the food – it was a celebration of community spirit and camaraderie! Amidst the mouthwatering delights, a playground of games was set up for all ages. Friendly competition ensued at cornhole, a beloved classic that never fails to spark some nice rivalries.
The energetic DJ took the stage as the afternoon sun peaked, curating a playlist that suited every taste. From timeless classics to the latest chart-toppers, the DJ’s skillful mixes had folks dancing and singing, turning the event into an authentic party atmosphere.
It was a day to celebrate the community, the spirit of togetherness, and the joy that comes from sharing moments with neighbors, friends, and family—honoring all the hard work of park pros.
Lower Makefield Township
It’s time to roll out the red carpet and give our incredible Park and Recreation Professionals and volunteers a standing ovation—as they were recognized in the July issue of the prestigious National Recreation and Park Association magazine for their outstanding contributions to our community.
The staff and volunteers have been the true architects of joy, orchestrating countless events and initiatives. They’ve brought smiles and unforgettable memories to the faces of numerous residents and visitors alike.
To commemorate this remarkable achievement and to show heartfelt gratitude, the park had a surprise lunch extravaganza for their staff at the picturesque Pavilion! The team gathered to celebrate the park heroes who have dedicated their time, passion, and talents to enriching the lives of our community.
Dover Township
Dover Recreation proudly hosted the thrilling Drum and Bugle Corps show on July 21, 2023! Brought to you in collaboration with the prestigious Drum Corps International (DCI), this competition promises an unforgettable display of talent, precision, and heart-pounding rhythms.
Visitors were transported to a world of captivating melodies and breathtaking performances as drum corps from across North America came together to compete in this prestigious event. The park was graced by the mesmerizing beats of talented young performers hailing from Canada, Alabama, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New Jersey, and Virginia.
These remarkable drum corps ensembles are a testament to the power of music, bringing together diverse cultures and backgrounds united by their shared passion for the art of drumming and bugling.
At the heart of this incredible showcase are the exceptional performers, all under the age of 22. These young musicians represent the future of drum corps, and their dedication, skill, and energy and inspire audiences of all ages.
A Pocono Country Place
Backyard Daze was an unforgettable event held in celebration of PRP Day. The sun was shining, and the atmosphere was excited as the community gathered in their backyards for an evening of joy.
The festivities began with a blast as the DJ started spinning a fantastic mix of tunes, setting the perfect mood for the day ahead. The rhythmic beats had everyone tapping their feet and dancing with abandon, creating an electric energy that filled the air.
As the sun began to set, the friendly competition kicked off with games that brought out the competitive spirit in everyone. Laughter echoed as friends and family gathered to play fun games.
The event was more than just a party; it was a testament to the power of unity and appreciation for the Park and Recreation Professionals who significantly impact the lives of everyone they touch. Backyard Daze had created memories that would be cherished for years to come, reminding everyone of the boundless joy that can be found right in their backyards.
Centre Region Parks & Recreation
The PRP Day Staff Field Day competition at the local park was filled with laughter and friendly competition among the Park and Recreation Professionals. Held under the bright blue skies, it was a perfect day of gratitude.
As the event ended, the Park and Recreation Professionals shared a sense of fulfillment and joy.

Good Job! Stephanie Robinson
As part of the PRP Day celebration, PRPS presented its annual Good Job! Award to Stephanie Robinson, acting environmental education program specialist at the Pennypack Environmental Center. The award is given in recognition of a parks and rec pro who has shown outstanding dedication and directly impacted the community.
Stephanie was nominated by coworkers, who she credits with helping her make their center a place offering countless programs for people of all ages. Her focus is mostly on teaching young people to love nature and be future environmental stewards by encouraging them to recycle and not litter.
